Welcome

Hi! I'm Missy Wilreker, and welcome to this new place for me to write and express. Thank you so much for reading and for your interest in what I write. This is a new endeavor for me, so let's see how it goes!

I was at Women Drummer's International - Born To Drum Camp 2011 and wandered into the "Writing as Ritual" class led by Odilia in the Spirit Lodge. Little did I know that the quick poems I wrote that afternoon, I would end up reading on stage at the open mic to such an ENTHUSIASTIC reception!

So many people encouraged me to continue writing and it FELT SO DARNED GOOD I am inspired to continue this adventure.

Feel free to comment on the poems, or give "prompt" suggestions to write upon as I am always awake and listening for what might inspire a flow of words and feelings.

Once In A Lifetime All Over

Can I ever have exactly that again?
You know, that feeling that fluttered my insides
from the very first time
you caught my eye?

The rich tapestry our lives have woven,
over so many years of joys,
through some of the times of hardship.
We've seen it all together.

Can I ever even find that feeling again?
With you,
with anyone?
The vibrations I felt, rattling my inside
that night we kissed.
In so many places.

My heart sings of longing
for what we shared together.
Remembering sweet moments under the starlight skies,
Amidst the twinkling of far-away city lights,
Among the floating mists of one sacred twilight
on the empty beach.

Just us, and the raw truth of our lives.
The waves lapping away our cares
so that nothing else remains.

I still feel every moment and know:
something special was there.

A blink and suddenly
our worlds collide
for a short ride
that lasts a lifetime.

You said you didn't want more,
But somehow, I found it.

Divergent paths become our lives,
spread over miles, time,
and all those in-between things.
And somewhere,
from the din of our separate,
detail-filled days,
the old, worn-out chords
still connect us.
Strongly.
Years of different lifetimes
shared together.

Can I ever have exactly that again?

I know,
probably not exactly.
No one is like the one-of-a-kind you
that you are,
me that I am,
Us that we were,
then.
Nothing can be
the same moment we had
in those instants of time.

But when I still feel all that inside,
I remember,
and believe,
its worth the risk
for once-in-a-lifetime love,
all over again.

(Challenge- include the following words: tapestry, sings, eye, din, collide)
